Yeah, it's kind of a double-edged sword. Since it pulls keywords from our posts, it tries to give relevant links. Unfortunately, there's no way to control it. You can reject some keywords or products with Amazon ads, but it's too much of a hassle to do so because you could possibly alienate some things if they're relevant.

Anyway, I find it kind of funny and ironic that we're getting atheist and pro-gay Google links as well as Amazon links for Dawkins occasionally. I don't understand the "2 Rules for Stomach Fat" one, though.

Some crazy ads you get from Google when you write about this stuff. I'm sure there's some irony there, but then again maybe not.

Thanks for your comments, Christy. Sorry it's taken so long to respond, I've got an annoying cold this week. I just wanted to let you know Part 1 of this article is online at NGJ. Here's the link if you want to read it: http://www.nogreaterjoy.org/articles/general-view/archive/2008/august/13/cloistered-homeschool-syndrome/
Also, I took at look at your website. I loved your statement "The truth is true no matter what you believe."

As a wise Christian sage once put it, "Isn't that special?"

You wrote,

It goes back to Solomon saying “There’s nothing new under the sun.”

Truly? What school did Isaac Newton go to learn about the law of universal gravitation or calculus? What scientific journal did Charles Darwin read in order to understand natural selection?

They don’t understand there are many Christians who have questioned the Bible and came back to it with an even stronger belief of its truth.

What? Can you provide any examples of such freethinker misunderstanding?

For them, 2000 years of faith from millions of people and changed lives is proof of nothing.

Not true at all. It proves the ability of people to self-delude. You certainly agree, unless you believe that Hinduism is the truth.

I came across your blog through Google alerts. I saw this NGJ issue last month. Kinda wish'd I'd seen the Part 1. Oh well...
I actually know a family whom I would label with this syndrome.
We're like you, love the kids, like 'em around, like to be around 'em. Can't wait to see them grow up and leave.

You might be interested in this online commentary "Putting God on Trial: The Biblical Book of Job" (http://www.bookofjob.org) as supplementary or background material for your study on the Book of Job. It is written by a Canadian criminal defense lawyer, now a Crown prosecutor, and it explores the legal and moral dynamics of the Book of Job with particular emphasis on the distinction between causal responsibility and moral blameworthiness embedded in Job’s Oath of Innocence. It is highly praised by Job scholars (Clines, Janzen, Habel) and the Review of Biblical Literature, all of whose reviews are on the website. The author is an evangelical Christian, denominationally Anglican. He is also the Canadian Director for the Mortimer J. Adler Centre for the Study of the Great Ideas, a Chicago-based think tank.

Tnanks for the comments guys. It gives something to think about. We took the kids trick or treating on Friday, and they had a great time. I see values in it as a parent. It's good to let the kids be part of genorosity from others. Most of the people in the houses we went too seemed to be enjoying themselves, and loved seeing the costumes. It was good for reinforcing values, reminding the kids to say thank you. Reminding them that it's very nice of everyone who gave them a treat, but that no one is obligated to, and to be thankful. Yes, we must listen to God, I try to. I have felt God leading me away from things before, but I do not feel He is leading me from Halloween. In my experience it builds community and innocence. I know bad things happen, but we try to avoid those (kind of like life in general.) If I ever feel God is calling me to avoid Halloween I will. I have not felt that yet.
