Forgiveness and Mercy or Hold On to the Bitterness?

Friday, September 26th, 2008

The Lord says:
“These people come near to me with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
is made up only of rules taught by men.” – Isaiah 29:13
You know that old adage: Forgive and forget? A lot of times it’s not that easy and seems downright almost [...]

Celebrities Answered the Question: “Is There A God?”

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008

A while ago Marc found a link to an article with a list of actors and their answers to the question, “Is there a God?” I don’t agree with the premise in the article’s opening paragraph:
Humanity is eternally seeking answers to theological and philosophical questions, and if anyone knows the answers, it’s our celebrities. For [...]

Leaving a Christian Family Legacy

Wednesday, August 27th, 2008

Monday I went to my uncle’s funeral. Marc was not able to go, so I took our two kids and rode across the state with two of my brothers. Sitting at my uncle’s funeral, I was reminded of my family heritage. Part of our heritage is dying at the generations and times change, but it’s [...]

Christianity: Burnin’ Up

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

When I first accepted the notion of God and then turned to Christ, I was a man obsessed. Like most things we feel strongly about, when we first get involved it drives everything. ALL aspects of my life revolved around God, reading the Bible, changing everything about myself to this new life, and getting more [...]

Music: Jon Foreman – Equally Skilled

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Yesterday at church the sermon was on finding our true meaning and purpose in life. The pastor did a great a job saying the place where we will find our purpose is by first going to God. Then we find our purpose in the church, as a member of the body of Christ. Secondly, God [...]

God Trials Kids and Dogs

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds…—James 1:2
A week ago tonight my son was running through the house, even though we’ve told him repeatedly not to run in the house. I was in the kitchen, and suddenly heard running footsteps, then a big BAM, loud screaming and crying. I [...]

A Christian Life: Living Open

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

Another thing mentioned in the sermon was that even though there are consequences to living open, to be vulnerable, there are also great rewards. The person who boards themselves up at home, and never acknowledges someone else, never has a friend. They never have someone to help them in hard times. They go through everything alone.

John Lennon: The Beatles a Christian Band?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

If that one vicar turns one young boy away, what difference will it make? Look at Mr. Lennon’s example. He was just one boy, but he grew up to have influence over millions of people. Thousands of people still idolize him even long after his death. He was turned off then to organized religion. How many people are turned off to it today because of him?

A Little Quick Space Filler

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

I kind of broke our laptop last night replacing the fan. I got it put back together, it ran for a little while, then locked up. Now it’s not fully booting up at all, giving me the “unmountable boot volume” error. I repeated the disassembly and reassembly 2 or 3 times until about 3 am [...]

God bless America

Monday, July 7th, 2008

God has protected and blessed our country for over two hundred years. Biblically, we have had to be standing on good principles, with people of faith, for such a blessing to have continued throughout the centuries. No, we have not always behaved honorably. But we have obviously been doing some things right to receive so much of God’s blessings.
