Friday, November 7th, 2008Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed by everything I have to do, and want to, that I end up feeling I can’t get anything done. I’m sure I’m not the only person who’s felt that way. But when I allow a constant “to do” list to stream through my brain, it floods my alertness, and I [...]
Obama Elected: How to Cope, Biblically, with Winning and Losing
Wednesday, November 5th, 2008Barack Obama was elected president of the United States last night, bringing to a close the most heated, and emotional election I can ever recall. It was a long road to get here. I’m glad it’s over. But with the elation and let down of the election, there is a lot of emotion surging through [...]
Alliance Nebraska: Carhenge — An Eyesore or Inspiration?
Monday, September 29th, 2008For a lot of the last twenty years, I had heard of Carhenge but had never seen it except in photographs. Most people I talked to made it seem like one of the cheesiest things on earth. The impression I got was it was like so many roadside attractions built by people trying to drum [...]
Ned Steinberger: Art and Becoming The Man
Wednesday, September 17th, 2008The other day when I posted those two videos, the headless electric bass in the (probably fake) performance by “Sonseed” got me thinking about that instrument design. I then wanted to find out when it was invented and more about the designer.
Even though I have no musical talent and was never really able to play [...]
David Pelzer
Tuesday, September 16th, 2008“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11
Jeremiah 29:11 has been one of favorite Bible verses for years now. No matter what I’m going through, or how long the trial I’m in [...]
Olympics 2008: What I Learned from Michael Phelps
Wednesday, August 20th, 2008A week and a half ago I did not know who Michael Phelps was. I didn’t know he was a swimmer. I didn’t watch the 2004 Olympics, so I had never seen him swim. This Olympics I have seen all of his races. He amazes me. His story inspires me. It’s been a long summer; [...]
What do You Trust in a Failing Economy?
Tuesday, August 12th, 2008Some trust in chariots and some in horses,
But we trust in the name of the Lord our God.
They are brought to their knees and fall,
But we rise up and stand firm. — Psalm 20:7-9
Americans put their trust in pretty un-secure things, especially now. Some of us put trust in our job; others rely on WIC [...]
A Little Quick Space Filler
Tuesday, July 8th, 2008I kind of broke our laptop last night replacing the fan. I got it put back together, it ran for a little while, then locked up. Now it’s not fully booting up at all, giving me the “unmountable boot volume” error. I repeated the disassembly and reassembly 2 or 3 times until about 3 am [...]
Faith Video
Friday, June 27th, 2008My brother sent me a link this week to one of the most inspirational videos I’ve seen in a long time. It’s about a two legged dog named Faith. Faith’s prognosis from the vet was not good. But her family was determined to help her. Their dedication created a dog who became a lot more self sufficient then anyone would’ve expected. And the video shows how happy she is as well. The family talks about how God sent them Faith to help minister to them after a horrible time for their family.
Faith and God in a Child’s Eyes
Friday, June 20th, 2008“…Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” Mark 10:14:15. As I kid I was introduced to that verse and thought, “Yuck, what’s so great about being a kid!” As an adult I read it and wonder what the big deal about kids was. Then, I had baby, and a few years later, another. Through them, I realize, kids are amazing. And I understand why Jesus said you have to be like a child to enter the kingdom of God.
