Just a Couple of Music Videos for Friday
By Marc | August 8, 2008
Today I’m just going to post a few videos. Some are songs I’ve had stuck in my head the last few days. Others are just ones that invoke certain thoughts and emotions in me.
This first one is “American Dream” by Casting Crowns. This song reminds me what is far more important than anything this world has to offer: my family.
This is “See a Little Light” by Bob Mould. Since I’ve been thinking a lot about the past and some of the music I liked in college, this always pops up.
Then there’s “Change of Heart” by Cyndi Lauper. It wasn’t one her major hits, but I always liked this song. Plus it featured Rick Derringer, so that’s another bonus!
“O Praise Him” by David Crowder Band. Not only a good song, but the video gives me chills.
“Cuts You Up” by Peter Murphy. Creepy guy, but it was one of those songs I dig.
This list couldn’t be anything without, of course, They Might Be Giants. “Birdhouse in Your Soul”
Judas Priest. They did several versions of the Joan Baez song “Diamonds and Rust”, and I think I had about every one of them. This is one live in 1982. I really love Rob Halford’s voice. It has one of the greatest ranges I’ve heard, being able to sound well really high as well as low. But in this recording, I think he wanted to be gravelly in the low parts to “make him sound cool”.
This is one of my favorite Smithereens tunes, “Behind the Wall of Sleep”. This was in the days when men with thinning hair should cut their losses and just shave it all off.
This is Julie’s favorite song by The Cure, and I dig it, too: “Just Like Heaven”
When Freddie Mercury died, we lost one of the last great showmen. This is “The Show Must Go On” by Queen. It was recorded when he knew he was dying and I think it sums up what we all face when we know our time on this earth is limited.
And finally, Madness with “One Step Beyond”. A groovy tune that’s just fun to move to.
