A Little Quick Space Filler

By Marc | July 8, 2008

I kind of broke our laptop last night replacing the fan. I got it put back together, it ran for a little while, then locked up. Now it’s not fully booting up at all, giving me the “unmountable boot volume” error. I repeated the disassembly and reassembly 2 or 3 times until about 3 am (even putting the old fan back in) and still no luck.

So, I’m writing something really quickly at work between projects.

Please pray that we can get something figured out.

Until we get something else, watch these (they’re on the subject of heroes):

Then these are just awesome:

your hard drive may not be plugged in all the way, either to the board or the drive

    Thanks, (cough), for the advice.

Actually, there were some errors in the hard drive itself (importand files in bad sectors). Windows would start, but only for about 5 seconds, then give the blue screen o’ death.

I had to get a SATA-to-USB connector, connect the hard drive to my work computer, then run chkdsk /r from there. It found problems, fixed them, and now the laptop is up and running.

I’m not sure exactly what happened. Maybe I did something, maybe it was just bound to happen eventually and the timing was bad. The laptop is 3 years old, so anything is possible.

    Thanks again for your suggestion!
