Testimonies on SermonAudio.com

By Marc | June 2, 2008

MarcAt work, if I need something to listen to in the background, I sometimes go for music, but I really enjoy finding something on SermonAudio.com. I’ve found lots of good sermons, but overall it can be a mixed bag.

Because there are different denominations, there are of course different ideological leanings, because churches and radio programs all over the world submit the media. You get the feel-good liberal ministers as well as the ultra-conservative ones. Some I come away from with an excitement, and some I have to stop in the middle because something really bothers me about what they believe (opinions about dancing, the evils of other denominations, etc.).

The ones I really enjoy, though, regardless of the denomination or social background, are the testimonies.

A jaded person could say that I listen to them to make me feel better about my own circumstances, like watching a train wreck or the Steve Wilkos Show. But it’s not that at all.

It’s about seeing how many things God can handle. It’s about hope for anyone, regardless of where his or her life is heading. It’s also about mercy for the most miserable of sinners. It’s about the glory of God. It’s also about the power of forgiveness and humility.

Even though I haven’t listened to all of them, these are a few of my favorite testimonies:

Peter Orasuk

A really great one. This man was a former heroin addict and drug kingpin in Canada.

Matt Haney

A Methodist turned Jehovah’s Witness, then to following Christ. A really great comparison to the parable of the prodigal son.

Dr. Mark Eastman

A story of how DNA led a medical doctor to go from evolutionist to creationist with a fifty cent audio cassette.

Richard Bennett

A former Roman Catholic priest. An amazing look at life within Catholic ideology and what priests are taught to preach.

Rev. Thomas Martin

Another powerful story. Formerly a member of the UVF, then saved while serving time at Maze Prison, Rev. Martin became a well-respected minister.

Mr. Phil Moffat

A former member of the Orange Institution. He had to choose between following the group or following Christ.

Matthew Potter

A man who grew up doing the minimal. He made sure he knew the Bible and went to church every Sunday, but lived like the devil the rest of the time.

Catherine Blaire

A recovering heroin addict.

Stephen Law

An alcoholic, who had come from a good Christian family.

Pat Summerall

Yep, the sports announcer. He talks about his battle with alcoholism and his second chance at life.

Lisa Whelchel Cauble

She played Blaire on The Facts of Life. She talks about how she met her husband and how God has called her to be a wife and mother rather than continuing to be a celebrity.

There are literally hundreds of hours of stories of God’s saving grace in addition to the thousands of hours of other content on the site. As of this writing, there are 183,769 free mp3 audio sermons available. Many of them also have video. Check it out; it’s worth your time.
