Women of Faith: 2008
By Julie | March 28, 2008
Tomorrow I am going to Omaha, with a group of friends from our church, to a Women of Faith two day conference. It will take place Friday evening, and all day Saturday. This will be my third Women of Faith. Several of the women going have already gone with my two other times. A few of them have never been there.
For our church, Women of Faith has been a great experience, a chance to get out for the weekend, with just the girls. For some reason, when marriage and kids come along, girls night out just doesn’t happen as often. But for our church, Women of Faith is an evening out, a slumber party in a hotel, an all day conference, and talking, then a drive home, with only women. Since going my first time, these events are something I look forward to all year. Our women’s group is closer because of it. We have had so much fun, so much laughing; we’ve been crazy, a little too honest, and gotten way too little sleep. Sleep is not something I ever try to deprive myself of. For me to be willing give it up, well, that just shows how much I love these trips!
The first year I went Tammy Trent told her heart-breaking story of waiting years and years to be with her husband, only to lose him far too early in a diving accident the day before September 11, 2001. Our whole group was in tears, everyone in the center I could see was crying.
Last year, Nicole C. Mullen was the music entertainment. Wow. She was incredible. She filled the conference with so much energy. Young women, old women, small women, large women, were all up and dancing in their seats. Her voice is amazing, and carries to every crevice in the auditorium, then shakes it up a bit. She travels with a group of dancers, kids she takes under her wings and teaches. Every women in our group decided we want her arms. Hey, we may be Christians, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have our shallow times! I came home and bought 2 of her CDs.
One thing about going to a Christian conference, they are fun, and playful, but they have a heart about them you don’t find every day. Certainly not on TV, or in many of life’s events. In my experience, when I’m at an event meant to serve God I always seem to leave with the clarity my life needs at that very moment. Because God knows what we need. I still remember the line that helped me in my struggles last year. In fact, after Women of Faith, when I’d have a bad day, I’d recall it, and then things seemed a little better for awhile…
… Before God formed the foundations of the earth, He knew the struggles you’d be facing now. And if He knows your struggles, He knows your solutions too. So ask Him…
I don’t know about you, but all too often I forget to ask.
Whatever you do this weekend, have fun. If Women of Faith is ever in your area, I highly recommend it.
