Happy Halloween
By Julie | October 29, 2007
I looked at my boys tonight, dressed up as giraffes. They looked so very cute, but were tired, and wired and acting crazy. I told Marc, “Thank God Halloween only comes once a year.”
We quickly corrected ourselves, in unison, “It comes three times a year.”
Late night (Sunday) we were invited to take the boys trick or treating with some friends at their church. They called it “Trunk or treat” because cars lined up in the parking lot, decked out in nearly every imaginable theme. We strolled from trunk to trunk in a line of trick or treaters. The owners of the vehicles loaded my boys down with candy, while entertaining them with elephants, tanks, Nintendos, a dog dressed up for Christmas, and tons of other themes. When the “trunk or treating” was over we were fed chili dogs, followed by a hay rack ride. It was such a fun night. But, the boys were tired, and ready for bed when we finally got home (we had a non-Halloween party to go to when trunk or treating was over.)
Tonight (Monday) we went to “Boo at the Zoo”. This is the one time of year we go to our dimly lit, small zoo at night. Vendors set up and hand out way more candy then I’d like to think about my kids eating, and a bunch of coupons to entice us to frequent their businesses. Many free Happy Meals will be eaten by my kids this month, which is strange because we don’t normally go to McDonald’s much. The boys were wound up when we got in the car to come home. My prediction is for very good sleep in our home tonight.
All of this celebrating, and we haven’t even had Halloween yet. It almost makes me dread, and anxious for, Christmas (We celebrate five Christmas’ every year now. It is wonderful to have the time with family and friends. But when it’s over I’m always ready for January, just to have a month to plan NOTHING.)
Whatever your plans are for Halloween, we hope you have fun, and enjoy your kids, or family, or friends. As for us, we’ll be detoxing on Thursday. We wish you luck with that as well. Then get ready to gear up for Christmas.
Happy Halloween!
