Where am I? And what’s up with that monkey?
By Julie | August 26, 2007
A Bugskippy tour.
Welcome to Bugskippy. We’re so glad you made it! You may be wondering what a Bugskippy is, and what this site is all about. Ultimately Bugskippy is just a silly little name we’ve been using for years, and now we’re bringing it to the web. But, this site is about something far greater then a silly little name; it is about God and Christianity. Created because we feel God led us to create it, as stated here…
Mission Statement:
We believe God inspired, led, and directed us to build this website. We’re not entirely sure why but intend to follow his leading, by implementing the goals he’s given us, and will give us. We believe God is bigger then many voices in our society insisting we, and you, give up our dreams and become complacent. We believe in encouraging others to ignore those voices of dream-stealers in every area of life, and to cling to God’s voice instead. We believe God gave us our dreams, talents, and abilities. He will lead our future, and future of this site.
Who are we?
Marc is a graphic artist. Julie, his wife, is a stay at home Mom. In beginning of their marriage Marc flickered between atheism and agnosticism, Julie was a Christian.
On June 26, 2005, Marc became a Christian and he was baptized with his wife, as their 2 year old son looked on. Two weeks later they discovered a second child was on the way. They sought God, to understand faith in light of Marc’s recent conversion, a journey they continue upon. But life was busy, Marc worked first shift, Julie worked second, and while one worked the other cared for their toddler. A question ebbed away at them, could God really have a purpose for them to fulfill?
March of 2006 came, and so did the arrival of their second son. Julie went back to work when he was 6 weeks old. Life wasn’t what they’d envisioned, working different shifts, only raising their kids together on weekends. Plus, they knew God had given them talents beyond what their jobs were using, and God doesn’t make mistakes, right?
They decided to find out, in the summer of 2006, after months of prayer, Julie quit her job. They made some financial arrangements and adjustments, God provided many others. They prayed for everything and anything that came to mind. Their mission: to give God a year while they work on their talents. Allow God give and guide their goals. God’s plan required them to ignore the fear of their possible destruction, and failure, and instead put their faith, trust, and lives in His hands.
But what’s here?
In 2006 Marc began creating the online comic “One of a Hundred”. He’ll be the first to tell you God inspired it, because he could not have come up with all that stuff on his own. (Marc loves using non-descript words like ‘stuff’. And sometimes if he does not know an answer to a question, he’ll smile, look confused and say, ‘I like cookies.’ The trait is both endearing and frustrating.)
“One of a Hundred” is the story of an atheist, Jim, who loses his wife and daughter. He is forced through life on his own, with a chip on his shoulders toward God and Christians, until he finally gives in to what he’s known all along, God is real! As an added bonus Jim discovers God also really loves him. Currently “One of a Hundred” is updated every Wednesday.
Marc has other comics in the works, though at the moment they are one shot comics that won’t carry on for months. Stayed tuned for his illustrated comparison of Peter and Judus, both betrayed Jesus, but their outcomes were not at all similar.
Forums:
We also have our Christian forums, a place for people to get to know each other, and shares lives, and faith. (You could even let us know if you like cookies.) We hope this area will unite people, and build a family dedicated to serving Christ, while bearing one another’s burdens. Don’t miss out on the post “What has he done for you?” We hope to read your story of how Jesus has saved you.

But you haven’t explained, what’s up with that monkey?
Oh, right, the monkey! Last January Marc listed “One of a Hundred” on webcomicsnation.com. It was our first experience getting “hits” and learning how search engines work. He decided to post a sketchbook on the site as well. In an attempt to be humorous and poke fun of himself he titled the sketchbook “So the Monkey thinks he can draw.” Afterwards Google started sending traffic for the searches “How to draw a monkey.” We kind of laughed about it as more and more traffic came to the site from nearly every search engine. Marc began to wonder, ‘How do you draw a monkey?’ He did some looking and created his own tutorial so that the searches of all those people would not be fruitless. Still finding the monkey thing humorous, he also created a t-shirt with step by step thumbnails of his tutorial. What a conversation starter that is to wear around, ‘Uh, what’s up with that monkey?’ Marc has really enjoyed it, he’d like to create other tutorials as time allows, but none are currently being worked on.
To you:
We pray (even if you resent the act) all who read this will come to know God, or that He’ll have a deeper impact on your life. We hope to put some laughter, spiritual insight, and fun in your lives. We hope this site will be a sanctuary for believers to build each other up in faith, and have fun together. And maybe non-believers will be touched by it, or at least learn being a Christian does not make us “would-be murders”.
Thank you for stopping by. Have a look around. Come back often. And most importantly, God bless you all.
