Why Do You Want Me to Sign Up on Classmates.com and Reunion.com?
By Marc | October 3, 2008
This post may or may not have any real deep information, but I just want to rant.
A month or so ago, I got two different emails saying that two different people wanted to get a hold of me on Reunion.com. Many people would probably jump at the chance to reunite with someone and thus create an account with Reunion. I wasn’t about to for a few obvious reasons.
The people in question…
- knew my email address in order to refer me. Why don’t they just send me an email?
- live in my city. Actually, they know where I live and have even been to my house.
- are more than just passing acquaintances. One of them is actually my brother-in-law, but the other I haven’t spoken to in months.
But, after weeks of putting it off, I decided to sign up to find out why these people referred me.

One of a Hundred - page 113 - All You’ve Got Left
By Marc | October 2, 2008
They call it stormy Monday, but Tuesday’s just as bad. Wednesday’s worse, and Thursday’s also sad. But Thursday also has this comic, so take that as you will. You can read the whole series, as well as see a larger version of the current page by clicking on the picture below.
One of a Hundred follows the story of Jim Hatlen, an atheist who loses the two people he loves most, his wife and daughter. Forced to face life on his own he learns he’ll either self destruct or rely on God. But what’s happens when someone who does not believe in God becomes a Christian? Read, look and find out. This is an on going serial. It updates every Thursday. You can also check it out at Webcomics Nation here.

The Bailout: Leaving A Strong America for Our Children
By Julie | October 1, 2008
I sometimes let my sons watch a show called “Super Why” on PBS Kids. It’s a good reminder for them of the alphabet, and they really like the stories. Every show a character looks out of the screen, supposedly to his audience and says, “Say your name.” My oldest son, who is 5, answers, “Dominic.” After a few times of not participating, my 2 year old decided to join in, by saying, “Dominic.” So Dominic told him, “You’re not Dominic, I am. Your name is Ian.” But Ian just says, “Dominic.”

Alliance Nebraska: Carhenge — An Eyesore or Inspiration?
By Marc | September 29, 2008
For a lot of the last twenty years, I had heard of Carhenge but had never seen it except in photographs. Most people I talked to made it seem like one of the cheesiest things on earth. The impression I got was it was like so many roadside attractions built by people trying to drum up visitors to their towns. You know the ones: ordinary objects sculpted to extraordinary size and scary pavilions meant for children to play around, both types of which haven’t been painted or repaired since Nixon was in office. Actually, before I saw it with my own eyes, that’s what I pictured.

Forgiveness and Mercy or Hold On to the Bitterness?
By Marc | September 26, 2008

The Lord says:
“These people come near to me with their mouth
and honor me with their lips,
but their hearts are far from me.
Their worship of me
is made up only of rules taught by men.” - Isaiah 29:13
You know that old adage: Forgive and forget? A lot of times it’s not that easy and seems downright almost impossible.

Colorado Metro State College Professor Investigated for Assigning Anti-Palin Essay
By Julie | September 24, 2008
Yesterday I stumbled across an article about a college Professor in Colorado, Andrew Hallam, who assigned an Anti-Palin essay to his class. A couple students were not happy with the assignment and went to the press over it. The professor is being investigated. Here’s a snippet from the Denver Post:

Celebrities Answered the Question: “Is There A God?”
By Julie | September 23, 2008
A while ago Marc found a link to an article with a list of actors and their answers to the question, “Is there a God?” I don’t agree with the premise in the article’s opening paragraph:
Humanity is eternally seeking answers to theological and philosophical questions, and if anyone knows the answers, it’s our celebrities. For those on the fence about the existence of an all-powerful deity, The Onion A.V. Club offers your answer: Simply choose your favorite celebrity from the 52 polled here, and whatever he or she says should serve as definitive proof either way.

Hey, Nebraskans, Being a Parent is Evidently Reversible!
By Marc | September 22, 2008
No, I’m not talking about abortion. I’m referring to the recent Nebraska safe haven law (LB157), which states:
“No person shall be prosecuted for any crime based solely upon the act of leaving a child in the custody of an employee on duty at a hospital licensed by the State of Nebraska. The hospital shall promptly contact appropriate authorities to take custody of the child.”
Notice there is no age restriction on the child?
